My new CD is out!

Hello everyone

It is with great excitement I would like to announce that my brand new CD “All time high” is now officialy released world wide! CD´s, Tabs and MP3 downloads can be found as usual on the Candyrat website. And of course Itunes and Amazon.com.

I have been selling the CD as merchandise on the Tommy Emmanuel / Jimmy Wahlsteen tour and it has been very well recepted.

The Halifaxation video is out on the Candyrat youtube channel. I never read the comments but according to the Facebook feedback my beloved listeners seem to digg it. Check it out if you haven´t already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT3J7iXqTAs

I am writing this post from a peculiar place. The tour agent booked me on my day off into a tiny Tennis and Squash hotel in Kaarst outside of Dusseldorf. Their online service is, god bless, working fine so I could be worse off. A driver took me here from Basel today where I played yesterday with Tommy Emmanuel. Very nice gig at the Stadtcasino. Opening up for Tommy has been a truly awesome experience. The fans have been great and the venues just beautiful. In Paris I did one of my all time high, no pun intended, performances and the sound has been very nice through the whole tour thanks to our geat engineerer and tour manager Steve Law.

Speaking of sound: The friendly people at T.C electronics have been trying to send me a new G-natural since my brooke down on the soundcheck before the first gig. So far they have not succeded because of bank holidays and weekends but tomorrow I´m gonna show the crowd in Kaarst some pretty cool FX I´ve been working on if the German delivery service manages to find this remote hotel.

Me and Tommy play my new song Mindlessness together by the end of the show. It´s an honor to play with him and the song sounds wonderful. Filming is prohibited on the show but if you search youtube I´m sure you´ll find a piece or two…

Until next time, thanks for stopping by,

Jimmy Wahlsteen – Canada tour diary 23/11

So, I´m in Saskatoon for the 6th gig of the Canada tour. It´s -28C coold and as usually I´m not exactly dressed for the occasion so I´m staying indoors with a cup of coffee in the all free wireless downtown.

One of my Larrivées has taken a few beatings on this tour. First, after making me paying overweight charges, the airline lost it, and when it finally showed up in Toronto my Sunrise pickup was soundless. I had to fix it at the 12 fret music store, east side Toronto.

Then, after the sold out and super fun gig yesterday at the Unitarian Hall in Thunder Bay one of the sound guys knocked over a microphone on the same guitar so it got another nice crack in it. It will probably look like Willie Nelsons guitar after this tour but as long as it keeps sounding great it´s ok, I guess…

We´re flying between every gig in this great big country. Distances here are unbelivable. If a city is within 5 hours driving range it´s concidered to be close! I had to get up 4 o´clock this morning to make it in time for the airport.

Anyway, the tour is lots of fun and Don Ross is a great tour partner. I´ve also been fortunate to be palying with my all time favorite sing and song writer, fantastic guitar player and vocalist Brooke Miller on this tour. I´ve been listening a lot to her records and it was great to finally play the songs with her.

Here´s a couple of pic´s from the gig at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto:

If you care for a little preview of how the tour sounds like. Please check out me and Don playing at Hugh´s Room earlier this year.

Thanks for stopping by!

Jimmy Wahlsteen – my sound / live setup

Hello everybody! I´m getting a lot of questions on Facebook and Youtube about my sound and what kind of equipment I use.

I´m happy to share it with you so I thought I´ll make it official here on my blogg. Enjoy!

Guitars: Larrivée. I use a LSV-11 and a L-09. Both fantastic sounding beautiful instruments.

Pickups: I use the wonderfully sounding K&K system. I use the (K&K) pure mini together with the Sunrise pick up each runing through different preamps. The K&K pick up goes through an L.R Baggs preamp. and the Sunrise goes through Sunrise´s own preamp gear that looks like a little black box.

I mix the two signals in my little Mackie mixer. The Sunrise pick up has nice bass sound so I max the low knob on the

input for the Sunrise signal and I handle the K&K eq on the L.R Baggs preamp.

Now it starts to get complicated. The left channel on the Mackie board goes direct to the “Front of house” mixer board. The other master output runs through my Boss Loop Station which can be muted with a channel switch and a Volume pedal.

FX: From the phones output on the Mackie I send a 3rd signal that splits into stereo in my Multi FX board from TC electronics. I use the G-natural. It´s got all the TC reverbs, delays, choruses etc and sounds amazing.

Here´s a picture of the setup.

Hope this have been helpful. Good luck to all of you!

Germany tour – Jimmy Wahlsteen & Don Ross – 2010

Guten tag!

The tour with Don Ross is now 2 gigs old and it´s been a fantastic musical experience playing together with him. We´ve made arrangements for each others songs. Don really makes songs like “It´s your favorite”, “Shifs of attention” and “Rapid eye moment” sound amazing!

Here´s a pic from the premier gig in Cologne.

I´ve had great support on this tour by Akustik Gitarre magazine. They made me the cover boy together with a 4 page interview and a printed workshop. I also got the tour plan published in the mag which is great.

The acoustic guitar scene in Germany is really cooking. I´ve met some great players here. I can recommend you all to check out Peter Kroll-Ploeger. We did a video recording of his song “Friday afternoon” in his home in Mulheim that will show up on youtube soon.

I updated my rig quite a lot before this tour. I am now a proud endorser of the TC G-natural! It´s a fantastic multi-fx device with stompbox functions as well as programmable setups with beautiful Reverbs-Delays-Modulations and Compressor features.

The new setup:

K&K pick ups also honored me with naming me their “Artist of the month”! Thanks for the support K&K.

Today, 6th of may, I am doing a solo gig in Koblenz before I meet up with Don tomorrow again in Viersen.

Here´s another live shot from the Cologne gig.

Thanks for stopping by and auf wiedersehen.

Jimmy Wahlsteen – Deals, deals and more news!

Winter´s still here! Not only do I apprechiate this because I like snow but it also creates a feeling of time moving slowly. That means I get a lot of things done!

I got some cool announcements to make:

I´ve signed a management deal with Allan Wells from Comino Productions. He´s a dear friend and a fantastic professional. Comino is based out of Toronto Canada where I´m going to spend parts of my Canada tour this summer.

I have also begun working with a real cool booking agency in California. Maria Matias Music will be my official agent in North America. Soon te be announced on each of our websites.

For some time now I have used a K&K Sound pick up blended with my Sunrise pick up as mic-setup. I use their Pure mini model and I have now received an endorsement deal from them. I will start by adding a Pure mini to the NEW GUITAR I just picked up. It´s a Larrivée LSV-11. The very same guitar as I borrowed to pose with on my album cover.

My favorite Stockholm guitar dealer Nysse finally softened and sold it to me. Best guitar I ever played. He gave me a great deal on the guitar and we also agreed on a sponsorship deal for a great Larrivée electric. Here´s Nysse showing up both instruments in his shop.

I finally moved out of the studio… I recorded my whole album there… I also signed my deal with CandyRat there… Wrote songs… Rehearsed… It´s time to move on and my new studio at my summer house will be ready in june. Here´s the last picture I took of the old place, moving out.

On march 9th I´m up for the second edition of GitRnite. The artists are: Me, Andreas Rydman and Joel Sahlin. The venue is Clarion Hotel Bar/Skanstull-Stockholm and it starts around 8.30 pm. Here´s a picture of the place I took when I went there the other day.

A couple of really great reviews poped up last week. One in Scandinavias biggest guitar-mag Fuzz magazine and one in italianGuitarChef. I´m having it translated. The only thing I understood was the 5 STARS!

Thanks for stopping by, and don´t forget to follow me on Twitter for daily updates.

Jimmy Wahlsteen – Tours and sponsorship deals!

Years ago I made the promise to never again wait for others to get back to me. That´s part of the reason I finally went solo after a long career playing behind other artists. Everything that keeps you waiting could be better handled on your own. I must say I´ve broken that promise more than once. Especially since going solo… There are magazine features wating to be published, tour dates to be made official, distribution deals to come through…. etc. Waiting is hard on an impatient guy like me so that´s why I´m thrilled to announce the following cool stuff that is now finally official.

ECHOES awarded my album “CD of the month” and it´s number one on the top 25 list!

I signed a sponsorship deal with L.R Baggs preamps. The new Venue D.I sounds just great and I´m gonna bring it on my upcoming tours this year.

I´ve also posted a new youtube video since the last blogg update. “181st song” is by far the most advanced video I´ve made so far and it´s gained over 50 000 views in just one month.

My Germany tour dates is now made official! You can also find the dates on my myspace which got a new design by the way.

My Canadian tour together with Don Ross this summer is also coming together. I´m invited as co-host on Don Ross Guitar weekends. The dates and sign up info is just made official. Together with that I´m doing the Canadian Guitar festival in the begining of august.

For all you German listeners: I´m featured in the upcoming issue of Akustik Gitarre! I´m also doing a workshop printed in the magazine.

I just picked up a copy of the latest issue of FUZZ magazine. This is actually the first swedish magazine that runs a feature on me.

Finally I gotta tell you that I´m moving my studio to my summer house in Gotland. I need a shift of environment before the next album recording that I hope will begin sometime in this upcoming fall. Here´s me posing at the place for the new studio.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jimmy Wahlsteen – Touring in winterland and new releases!

I´m born in Sweden but since I gave up all sorts of wintersports, including hockey sadly, I kind of forgot what an amazingly freezing country this is. The tour I did in november around the nordic polar circle was a great reminder. We stoped for reindeers every now and then and it got pitch-black around 2.30 in the afternoon.

I had a lot of spare time at hotelrooms during this tour. Partly cause after having admired the snowy environment there wasn´t much left to do really but play guitar, so I came home with some new material. I told you before how long it takes me to write, produce, make videos etc so I thought I might as well get started. Even though “181st songs” just got released.

When I came home I threw a great Stockholm release party for the album. All my best friends showed up and the gig went great.

My super gifted brother in law Joel Sahlin did a guest appearance and played “Tranquility” with me. We did a video of the song in my livingroom earlier and it´s getting good reviews on youtube. Another great guitarist guested on the party and we did his song “Bittersweet treat” together.

Some other cool stuff has happened. I just released a new set of tabs for “Shifts of attention” and “It´s your favorite”!

The “Shifts…” video has now gained over 80 000 views on youtube and people have been asking me for tabs since before the album release.

I did an interview with Scandinavias biggest guitar magazine Fuzz which will be out in february. I also did a long interview with German Akustik Gitarre that I think will be out before new year if I´m not missinformed. I´ll let you know through my twitter when they´re out.

My myspace also got a refreshing layout. Have a look and see if you digg. And… beware of the “181st song” video release before the end of december.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jimmy Wahlsteen – Update from Spain

Hola!

I´m writing this post from my hotelroom in Tenerife. Tragically I´m spending my day off here instead of beautiful Barcelona where I played yesterday. On friday I did a session gig with great artist Emilia de Poret at the Mango awards in Madrid.

Here´s a pick from the soundcheck.

Mango awards soundcheck.IMG_0524

On wednesday I do my Stockholm release at KGB. Beers are on me (for a while) and I´ll play a few songs.

We have decided to release “Shifts of attention” and “It´s your favorite” as tabs on the Candyrat label. I´m very happy that  the tabs for ”Rapid…” and “Tranquility” get so many downloads from all over and it´s time to put out some new material.

Today Candyrat posted the new video for “The urge to gossip” on their youtube channel!!! Hope you like it…

The biggest and coolest thing this week is undoubtedly that I met the worlds greatest Leo Messi in Barcelona the other day.
